Arrival is straightforward. Skólabraut runs off the main street in Hellissandur, a couple of minutes from Route 574, and the parking is free and private on site. The house has two bedrooms and a living room with a private entrance, so a family or two couples can close doors on each other after a long driving day. Evenings are self catering by design. The kitchenette is fully equipped, with a stovetop, an oven, a coffee machine, a toaster and an electric kettle, and there is a washing machine and a tumble dryer for the middle of a Ring Road trip. Outside, a garden with a barbecue looks at the sea, and Snæfellsjökull sits south beyond the lava field. Bathrobes, a dining area and a work desk fill in the rest.
