Stays in Bíldudalur
Bíldudalur is a small fishing village on the south shore of Arnarfjörður in the Westfjords, about 375 km from Reykjavík by roads 60 and 63, and it rewards a summer visit far more than a winter one. Its own sight, the Icelandic Sea Monster Museum, opens only in the summer season, roughly from late May or June to the end of August or mid-September depending on the year, and on request outside it. The other draw is Dynjandi, the tiered waterfall at the head of the fjord. We list two stays. Harbour Inn, scored 8.9 out of 10 over 439 guest reviews, is a family-run guesthouse in the village with shared bathrooms and breakfast each morning. The Guesthouse at Dynjandi Falls, scored 9.4 over 154 reviews, is not in Bíldudalur at all: it sits on the north shore of Arnarfjörður near Hrafnseyri, with a private beach, shared bathrooms and a shared kitchen, so it is the better pick if your next stop is Ísafjörður. Both have shared bathrooms, which matters if you expected an en-suite. In winter, the road north was transformed in October 2020, when the 5.6 km Dýrafjarðargöng tunnel replaced the gravel Hrafnseyrarheiði pass that was often closed by snow, but the route still crosses the Dynjandisheiði mountain pass. I would only plan Bíldudalur between November and March with a flexible day and a check of umferdin.is each morning.

Private beach on Arnarfjörður with mountain views from the balcony
Why guests love itI would pick this guesthouse for families who want the shoreline on the doorstep: it has direct access to a private beach on Arnarfjörður, with sea and mountain views from the terrace and balcony rooms. Family rooms have parquet floors and shared bathrooms, and the shared kitchen matters this far into the West Fjords, where places to eat thin out quickly. Free private parking helps, and Dynjandi Falls is close enough for a short outing between meals.

Village B&B two minutes from the Sea Monster Museum
Why guests love itFor a family, the strongest argument here is the location: the Icelandic Sea Monster Museum is a two-minute walk away, so children have something to look forward to without getting back in the car after a long drive on Route 60. Breakfast is served each morning, bed linen, towels and bathrobes are included, and the communal TV lounge gives everyone some space in the evening. Bathrooms are shared, so I would book it for a short stop rather than a long stay.
