Route 1 skirts the northern shore of Lake Myvatn, and Hlid Bed and Breakfast sits five minutes off it, spread over three separate buildings with simply furnished, private-bathroom rooms. The daily breakfast buffet is included, which matters here since Reykjahlid village, with its handful of restaurants and cafes, is a full kilometre away. A communal kitchen, small convenience store and BBQ equipment fill the gaps between meals, and staff arrange Icelandic horseback riding tours in the surrounding lava country. Krossdalur Golf Course sits 500 metres from the property, an unexpected find this far into the Highlands approach. A laundry room is also available on site, useful for anyone mid-way through a longer Ring Road loop with gear that needs washing.
